Garden Tour 2011
Returning to Santa Rosa, Where We Started...
Step back in time with us to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of our tour with six gardens including the garden surrounding the historic McDonald Mansion.
Introducing this year’s gardens:
The McDonald Mansion: Symbolic of Santa Rosa’s past, this beautiful and historic estate is being painstakingly renovated to remain true to its historic roots. The gardens surrounding the mansion will be graciously presented to our guests. A gated entrance and expansive lawn lead to an elegant labyrinth and rose garden as well as a grand terrace and pool in the back.
Further highlighting our anniversary tour are the following five gardens:
- Parts of this unique estate garden will be familiar - the large hillside home and other smaller structures surrounded by mature planting and trees. This inspired gardener is on a quest to landscape her entire property. See how she recently turned her son’s BMX bike pathways into a hillside paradise.
- A whimsical, colorful, in-town garden oasis lovingly created by hands-on gardener/owner. There is much to see including a 90 year old fig tree planted by the original owner of the 1920 bungalow, metal garden walls and an intimate secret garden. The owner’s colorful classic Chevy trucks will also be displayed.
- A terraced garden in Santa Rosa’s Fountaingrove neighborhood provides an innovative example of a beautiful and colorful Mediterranean landscape designed by its Master Gardener owner. A large front lawn was removed to make space for a dry creek and deer resistant and Mediterranean plants.
- Tucked away in the beautiful Montecito Meadow neighborhood, this garden conveys a peaceful, park-like setting with large curved lawn bordered by colorful perennial beds and redwoods.
- Located near one of the other gardens, this 6 acre community garden is one of the beneficiaries of this tour. Convenient access to picnic tables under a large walnut tree and walking paths through this unique urban farm which serves 37 local families.
