Friday, May 14
10 to 12 Elisa Colbert - Harp
Elisa is 18 years old and has been playing the harp since age 13. She has played harp in various orchestras and musical groups such as the Santa Rosa Youth Orchestra and the Occidental Community Choir but is currently spending her time focusing on college and teaching music. Elisa also plays the violin, piano, and sings on a regular basis with fellow musicians.
12 to 2 Sean Colbert - Viola
Sean Colbert is the Assistant Principal Violist of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and currently studies with Yun-Jie Liu of the San Francisco Symphony. He has appeared as a soloist with the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestras and the Santa Rosa Junior College Orchestra. He will be attending the University of Arizona in the fall to study viola with Hong-Mei Xiao.
2 to 4 Tim Zieminski - Violin
Timothy Zieminski is 18 years old and lives in Santa Rosa. Inspired by his mother, a former Santa Rosa Symphony violinist, he began studying piano when he was six and later joined the Santa Rosa Children’s Chorus. When he was 11, he picked up the violin and began learning from his mom. He has studied with Dominic DiSarro, Linda Ghidossi-DeLuca, and is currently studying with Kathryn Marshall. Mr. Zieminski is a founding member of the Zaira String Quartet, founded in the summer of 2006. He held the position of principal second violin of the Santa Rosa Symphony Young People’s Chamber Orchestra, and was a member of the SRS Youth Orchestra from 2006-2009. Mr. Zieminski has appeared numerous times as a soloist with both orchestras, and has won several awards, including multiple scholarships, third place and first place in the SRS Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, in 2007 and 2008, respectively, and first place in the Sonoma County 2008 Etude Competition. He is currently a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, and has been accepted into the San Francisco Conservatory of Music for studies in Fall of 2010.
Saturday, May 15
10 to 12 Erik Fauss and Emily Chu , Violin Duets
Erik Fauss is 13 years old and plays the violin in the Young People's Chamber Orchestra (YPCO) and the viola in the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra (YO). He has played the violin for 4-5 years and currently takes lessons from Joanne Jacovides. He just started viola last summer. Erik goes to school at Windsor Middle School and enjoys soccer and cross-country running. He has one brother, who plays the cello in YO and YPCO, and one sister. He loves history and science and wants to become a doctor or surgeon when he grows up.
Emily Chu who is 10 years old has been playing violin ever since she was three and a half years old. Her musical family includes her three other sisters, Caroline, Elizabeth, and Madeline, who all play the violin. They also play piano, except Madeline, but she’s getting there. Emily has great respect for her older sister Caroline, her mom and dad, and Joshua Bell.
Emily plays in the Santa Rosa youth orchestra and a chamber string ensemble, the Discovery Orchestra and the Young People’s Chamber Orchestra. Not only does she play the violin with Ivy Zenobi, but also piano with Peggy Nance. She has just started voice lessons with Melinda Valente Mureaux. Ivy Zenobi encourages Emily to play more challenging pieces. She’d like to acknowledge her parents for pushing her to play better.
In her spare time, Emily likes to run, sing, dance, play tennis, swim, and spend time with her family. Emily is a deliberate student who loves her teacher. She recently played at the Santa Rosa Orchestra Education gala fund raiser which helped earn money for the Youth Music Programs. She would like to thank everyone who helped her accomplish what she has liked to do.
12 to 2 Bellamor String Ensemble
Bellamor is a strings ensemble comprised of local high school students. These students play in various musical groups including Young People's Chamber Orchestra, Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra, SRJC Chamber Orchestra and the American Philharmonic. Performers today are Robby Morales, violin, Autumn Cullen, violin, Emily Mueller, viola and Evangeline Archiibald-Schulman, cello. Bellamor is available for hire for private events.
2 to 4 Healdsburg/Windsor Children’s Community Choir
The Healdsburg/Windsor Children's Community Choir is a community service choir. They sing for free for events and organizations that make this county a great place to grow up. Children ages 5 to 18 sing together in family style harmony to say "thank you" to the adults in their lives. To book the choir for an event please contact Heather Cullen 838-3341
Master Gardeners
For several years we have been fortunate to have members of the Sonoma County Master Gardeners available to answer your gardening questions. These volunteers come well prepared with intensive prior training, experience, and plenty of reference books and handouts. Go to the Master Gardeners' website http://www.sonomamastergardeners.org for the latest information on drought tolerant gardening, lawn alternatives, California native plants, and habitat gardening; gardening book reviews and a vegetable and plant of the month; calendar of free library series gardening lectures and workshops; the top-30 All-Star Plants for Sonoma County, and tips for monthly garden chores. The Sonoma County Master Gardeners, a volunteer organization of the University of California and the Sonoma County's Cooperative Extension program, provides timely science-based horticultural information to home gardeners.
