ANNOUNCING ADDED FEATURES FOR SONOMA COUNTY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION ALLIANCE FOUNDATION GARDEN TOUR 2008
SANTA ROSA, CA – The Sonoma County Medical Association Alliance Foundation’s seventeenth annual fundraiser, Garden Tour 2008, is taking place on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, from 10 AM to 4PM. This year’s tour is set among the vast, picturesque and renowned vineyards of Healdsburg and features six diverse estate gardens and three architecturally unique homes.
The annual event that attracts over 1,000 attendees is enhanced by several added features; a boutique of local artists’ wares, our featured artist painting in a garden, local musicians and workshops as well as Master Gardeners to answer your gardening questions. A delectable prepaid lunch at Barndiva is available for an extra charge until May 9th.
New This Year: This year’s tour will also include eight workshops (four each day) on a myriad of garden related topics. Guests are welcome to return to this garden as often as they wish. Copperfield’s will have an assortment of intriguing books available for purchase at the workshop barn. On Saturday only, guests will also be delighted by the display of vintage cars, courtesy of the Early Ford V-8, at the workshop garden. Ticket holders also have the opportunity for a complementary visit to the gallery & sculpture garden at T.Barny Designs. In addition, several gardens will feature lovely table displays presented by Dragonfly Floral, Saint Dizier Home, and The Gardener. The tentative lineup for the workshops is:
Friday, May 16
11am Ellen Zagory –Director of Horticulture at the UC Davis Arboretum –new & unusual plants native to CA, Mexico & Mediterranean regions and attracting hummingbirds and beneficial insects.
1pm Kate Frye – Chelsea Gold Medal Winner – her formula sustainable gardening – a tasty & flower-filled haven that delight people & wildlife (slide show)
2 pm Jani Weaver – retail manager of the Nursery at Emerisa Gardens, Master Gardener, will bring plants to illustrate talk on Easy Roses and HOT New Perennials.
3 pm Sandy Metzger – “Trash to Treasures Garden Art” is a show-‘n-tell about using “found” or other Unusual items to create functional or ornamental “art” for the Garden.
Saturday, May 17 by Sonoma County Master Gardeners
11 am Linda King – Creating Water Wise Gardens in Sonoma County – choosing and grouping plants by water needs. Tips for keeping your water bill under control.
1 pm Bob Tiller – Basic irrigation
2 pm Fred Revetria – Catching Varmints: Managing Moles, Gophers and Deer and others
3 pm George Zeleny – Gardening Gold: Composting
About Garden Tour: Now in its seventeenth year, the Garden Tour has become the largest fundraiser for the Sonoma County Medical Association Alliance Foundation. Its success is attributed to the dedication of the all-volunteer staff which commits hundreds of hours in planning and executing this two-day event. The Garden Tour proceeds, to-date in excess of $100,000, have been distributed to numerous Sonoma County non-profit organizations who conduct health and health education programs affecting children, women, men, seniors and families.

Ticket prices for general admission are $40 until April 30th and $45 after April 30th. Tickets are valid for both days.
